Oddpaw Farm

The small golden brown she-cat slid through the long grass of the field, staying low and silent. Some of the Oddpaw Farm was abandoned, but there were also places that were still runnning, like the one she was passing. Sheep were grazing in a small field and an Oddpaw was out watching. Quickly, she slid against the side of the barn and rounded the corner to the back of it where the plants grew tall. Mushroom waited a moment as she turned her violet eyes back to see if Fawn had followed.

"This place is odd."She muttered quietly, coming up behind the medicine cat. "Now, where is the catmint?" She could already feel her mouth watering, but she knew this was for Mushroom, not for enjoyment.

Her tail flicked and she nodded her head as Fawn joined her once more. Turning her head, she jerked it towards the dirrection of the tall plants. They were perfect, and if they weren't picked now, they would slowly begin to die. The she-cat made her way through the grass until she was right beside the few growing stems. "Alright, you pick out two and I'll get two, that should be good. These are so tall that I'm sure we'll be stocked with just a few of them."

"Okay." she meowed, padding up to the plants. She carefully pulled two out, and made herself not bite into the plants. It was tempting, but she knew Mushroom needed them. Backing away, she let Mushroom grab her mouthful.

Mushroom pawed at the ground, trying to dig up the roots also. An idea had formed in her mind, that when the snowfall came, she would still be able to grow some catmint. No cat had ever tried it before, but it was worth a shot. Grasping the plant stems in her jaws she yanked them out of the ground and lifted her chin so that they wouldn't drag on the ground as she walked. Once she had as much as she needed, she turned back to Fawn. "Alright, let's go," she mumbeled through the herbs before quickly slipping off.

Hunting Ground 1: Maple's and Oaks

"Let's get back to hunting." she meowed, standing up. She sniffed the air, finding a small trace of robin. She nodded her head to her son and the deputy and quietly creeped through the long weeds growing near a large oak tree. She peered out, blinking her green eyes. The robin pecked at the ground, in search of worms that it would never find. She moved into a hunter's crouch, eyeing it carefully. She placed her paws carefully infront of her, making sure not to rustle any leaves or twigs. The robin turned away from her and she pounced, unsheathing her claws in air. The bird turned at the last moment, it's eyes wide. It began to flutter its wings, but Fawn was ontop of it in a heartbeat. She nipped the back of its neck quickly, and picked it up, returning it to the others.

The deputy nodded his head to Fawn and snuck off in the opposite dirrection, following the scent of squirrel. Squirrels and rabbits always made good prey, but only the squirrels were easier to catch. He left Wind behind as he pushed his way through a hole in the undergrowth. His tail flicked once behind him and then stayed still as he crouched and stalked forward. his ears were pricked backwards just in case one of the others needed something. When he spotted the squirrel standing by a tree he bunched his muscles and without a moments hesitation he sprung forward. while he was in the air the squirrel raced u the tree, but it had been where he had aimed. His paws smacked the tree and he grabbed the squirrewl, yanking it up by its neck and then leaping back onto the ground, the creature hanging limp from his jaws. He padded back over to Wind and set down the squirrel. Kicking dirt over it he explained, "after your catch you scuff some dirt over for you to collect later. While it is hidden from other predators you can go hunt something else." Flame sat and waited for Wind to catch something.

Wind nodded his head to Flame and set off, sliping under a bush and hoping over a stick to get away from where they had already hunted. His ears perked as he heard rustling and when he looked he spotted a small mouse scavanging the ground for food. Wind crouched and looked at himself, making sure his paws were spread, tail stilled and crouching low to the ground. Then he looked ahead and started to stalk forward, a little off balance from being so low to the ground. when he thought he was close enough he tried not to think about it as he leaped, paws outstretched. He caught the mouse in between his paws, but it took him a second to unsheathe his claws. In the time the mouse started to scurry away, but he leaped again and killed it. He had caught his first piece of prey! He slid back over to Flame and dropped it. "Is this good?" he asked, his bright green eyes shining.

He watched carefully as Wind made sure he was doing everything the deputy had instructed. Flame also checked to make sure he was doing everything correctly, and it seemed better than the last attempt. When the tom-kit came back over Flame looked down at the mouse. It was a little small, but it would do. Every bit counted. The tom-cat smiled. "Good catch," he meowed. "But, a little sloppy, I'm sure you can do better. Just make sure you have your claws out and ready." His tail flicked. "Work on your landing a bit also, you might scare away other rey if you land too heavily." Flame turned to look for Fawn, waiting for her. It was already getting dark.

She held her catches in her jaws, eyes sparkling. "Ready" she mumbled around the fur. She hoped they caught enough for the army.

He looked at Fawn and dipped his head. "Good, we should get back to camp before someone starts to worry," he meowed before bending his head to pick up the squirrel he had caught. When he lifted his head his amber eyes were shining. Was this really what it felt like to be deputy? To be helping and doing the best he could instead of worrying over what he'd mees u if he wasn't careful? He was sure of it, and it made him hapy and proud to think of one day leading the army. "Let's go," he mumbeled through the fur and then took off in the lead, his tail flicking. He slowed his pace a little so that he didn't leave Wind behind.

The small tom-kit bent over and picked up his mouse again. when his head lifted he saw that Flame was already gone. He looked around and tried to scent the deputy, but his mind was only filled with the mouse in his jaws. 'He went back to camp!' his mind told him and Wind bounced forward through a clump of bushes and spotted the end of a flame colored tail. He realized the deputy again and started to follow back to camp.

She padded in, her eyes shinning. "Jeez, I haven't been out here for ages!" she meowed, looking all around. "I cant wait to catch a juicy mouse!" She licked her lips happily, and then began to sniff for prey.

The small tom-kit raced in after his mother and skidded to a stop into the back of her haunches. He jumped back and shook his head before staring around, his green eyes wide. "Whoa," he meowed. He slowly got into a crouch that he had learned a while from his sister, who seemed to be a natural hunter. He didn't mind if she took that title, but at least he was a better fighter!

She glanced at him as he ran into her, but she just smiled. "Where are you going to hunt?" She asked him, looking towards the fresh buds on all the trees.
