"Okay!" he meowed happily and picked it up quickly. He was trying to sound happy for Qualtail's sake, but he also felt somewhat worried about her. His paws going fast, he raced after her, the lizard dangling from his mouth. "Thanks," he meowed through the prey and continued to camp.

"Alright." she sighed, realived to let the conversation slip away. She realized all they had caught was a lizard. "You can say you caught it." She meowed, smiling. "Eaglespirit would be impressed." She quickly started to pad toward camp, glancing back every few moments to check on him.

He sighed. When Qualtail felt bad it almost made him feel as bad, why was that happening? His long tail flicked behind him and shrugged his shoulders, trying to stay away from the sunject now. "Why don't we go back to camp?" he suggestd. "It's getting late and Eagelspirit is probably getting worried, or hungry." He turned to pick up the prey.

"I would never..." she began, then paused, swivling her ears behind her. Then, a scent filled her scent glands. It, it was almost familiar, but it was soaked with LightningPride, so she wasn't sure. But, it smelled exactly like she remembered. "Hurt you..." She trailed off, turning to look into the pine trees. She thought she saw green orbs looking at her, but when she blinked, they were gone.

He blinked a few times and then looked at his paws, not sure what to tell her. "I'm a little scared," he confessed. "But not of you. Only of my past. It haunts me. It's always in my dreams, flashes, others seem just like them." His eyes flashed with fear for a moment, but it faded away. He looked up at Qualtail. "I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel like I can never trust another cat again, like they'll just instantly turn on me some time and... hurt me or something." His tail flicked.

"My kits...Blossom and Runner." She looked at him. "But, you jumped and pulled away...you seemed so...so..." She was at a loss of words. She didn't know what to do...just...she wished she could see them again.

"Afraid of you?" he asked. "I'm not afraid of you. I'm sure you were my first friend here in this Pride. Of course I trust you..." he trailed off. For a second he was silent before continuing. "Who are you talking about?" His ears flicked back to Rockpelt who may or may not of still been standing there.

"I'm so stupid Hare." she meowed planely. "They trusted me, you trust me...but what if I mess up?" She lowered her eyes, trying to relax. "But, I did it to protect them, he was going to hurt them! But, I hurt them too...." She was running the images through her head, trying to shove them out into the forest. "You seemed so..afraid of me..."

Hare slid across the sand and bumed into Qualtail as she stopped, just before hopping backwards, his fur on end. He cautiously padded towards her and put his long tail on her shoulder. "M- um- Qualtail?" he asked quietly, trying to get her attention. She seemed lost. She seemed almost like him, and he wouldn't let another cat be like him, it would be too much for him. Even though, he'd be able to understand them better, but he still couldn't let it hapen. "Quailtail?" he repeated. "What's wrong, why'd you run?"

Her heart raced as she heard pawsteps. Images flashed into her head. He, he was behind her. 'Where are you taking the kits?' He had hissed, clawing out at her. She felt the notch in her left ear, remembering it burning. He wanted them in his pride, but she said no one could have them if she couldn't. It had been horrible. She stopped, almost wailing. She noticed, with a sigh of relif, it was only Hare.

Hare tightened his grip on the lizard as he headed back to camp behind Eaglespirit. The tom flicked his tail towards Scarslash as he went and tried to balance the moss under his chin. It slipped more and more with every step so he had to pause to push it back up with his paw.

She watched as they traded prey and then as Hare lifted the moss from the ground and rolled it under his chin, just as she had instructed. "Good," she mewed through the cactus flowers. "Now, Scarslash, pick up some of the moss and follow us back to camp," she mewed before turning and padding off. She was smiling to herself, suddenly feeling like a real leader. The special cat that had power over the clan, and lead them, she actually lead them.

Hare dropped the han for Scarslash to take before he picked up the lizard. Then he turned to Eaglespirit and picked up one of the strips of moss. He rolled it up with a paw and placed it under his chein, just as the leader had. Then he stood, waiting for her to lead them back to camp.

The brown she-cat slipped back in, leading Hare and Scarslash over to the small pool. She droppedthe cactus flowers she's been carrying and stuck her paw into the pool, feeling the moss squish underneath. She unsheathed her claws and hooked up the strips before yanking them out, trying to keep as much water as possible. She lightly rolled it up and stuck it under her chin before picking up her flowers again and instructing them to do the same. "Except, you two switch prey, it'll be easier for Hare to carry the lizzard."

She smiled as Scarslash took Hare away, maybe she wouldn't have to talk with him. 'Well, he could stilll use a few tips, I assume,' she thought to herself, once again dirrecting her attention to the pool. She began to look around for more moss, but she wasn't finding much. They seemed to have enough water, but there won't be any special bedding this month. 'Well, at least we'll have a few feathers from those desert hens,' she thought as she got to her paws. She turned and followed the pair, letting the moss soak.

He tried not to jump, though he failed, as his name was called. He turned, his dark blue eyes landing on Scarslash. He dipped his head at the comment and his ears perked up at the idea. Hen, he had them before. The ones he'd had were skinny and small though, what did desert hen look like? What did they taste like? Suddenly he remembered how bad he was at catching them, they would make him jump and his jump made them jump and run away. He sighed and took his catch with him as he followed his mentor.

He returned with the lizard, an idea popping in his head. Maybe he had an idea on how he was supposed to mentor Hare. "Hey Hare!" he called after he made his catch. "Good catch, for one." He meowed with a smile, "And for two, why don't you come down with me, we'll have a go at some desert hen, okay? I want to see how you catch them." He flicked his tail, watching to see if Hare would come with him.

The leader nodded her head in agreement and continued to claw some moss of of the rocks as she had been doing, tossing the strips into the pool to let them soak. For a moment Eaglespirit turned to watch Hare and see how his hunting skills were coming along, then she tried to spot Scarslash to see if he would teach the younger cat a few other things. When she didn't spot him she turned back to her own task with a sigh and continued to soak the strips in the water. Maybe she would have a talk with Scarslash and teach him what it's like to be a mentor.

The tom-cat padded up behind his trainer-mentor. He had slowed behind them on the way. Now Hare dipped his head to Eaglespirit and slipped off in the same dirrection as Scarslash. Would it be hard to hunt in the dessert? Hare scented one of the mice-type creatures, so he crouched down and stared at it for a second. Did it see him? When he thought that his muscles tensed and he used the tension to spring himself forward. His back legs slipped on the sand and he hit the ground, thankfully sliding on that too. His claws barely reached the mouse, but he had caught it! He pulled it in, surprised to see it still alive. He dropped it, but caught it again and did as Qualtail had, nipped it's neck.

Hunting in the Sun

She nodded her head, tail flicking once. She turned, leading the two back to the small pool where she had left her moss to sit. She knew she would need help carrying the stuff back. Of course, they had caught prey and she had flowers in her mouth, so she was trying already figure out a way to get everything back to camp. [I think you caught a lizzard.]

Hare got to his paws, grabbing the hen by the neck and lifting it off the ground, almost. It's feet were dangling down, making him trip over it, but he did his best as he approached Eaglespirit. Was he still going to be able to help? He sat, waiting for Eaglespirit to lead the way back.

He looked at Hare, feeling he couldn't do anything to cheer him up. "If that's what you think." he meowed, trotting over to his prey. (What did I catch again?) "We'll go help Eaglespirit too." Even though he resented doing this, he was willing to do it anyway. He was sure to make a bigger fool of himself, which was making him feel a little weird.

Eaglespirit had picked about five flowers when she overheard the two tom stalking. Her tail flicked. "Are you all ready to head back to camp?" she called before picking up the flowers in her jaws, trying not to crush them. They were delicate and special, no cat ever really died of greencough here because there were so many cactus flowers.

He nodded his head, although on the inside he was still cursing himself. He had done exactly what Scarslash had expected, to catch one hen. He could've done better! He could've actually surprised him, of course, it didn't matter. "I'm sure a hen is good enough and you caught something and Eaglespirit will need help carrying things," he meowed. He just didn't want to mess up again on hunting today.

"Hare, that was a good catch. You cant always catch two things at once. It's okay. You caught one, and that's what I was hopeing for." He looked at Eaglespirit, then back at his omega. He twitched his whiskers, standing up. "Is there anything you want to catch?"

I give in! I'll post!] Hare turned to see Eaglespirit and he flicked his long tail in greeting. He tilted his head, watching what she was doing. What were the flowers good for? Suddenly he realized that all of the cacti were blooming flowers, that was a good thing, right? He turned his attention back to Scarslash, still waiting. Wasn't he going to say what he did wrong, if he did anything wrong? Or tell him he was good, but could do better? Or just teach him how to catch the hens?

The brown splotched she-cat made her way away from the small pool she had been at. Though she was done with that act of gathering for the Pride, now she had something else to do. The leader stopped beside a cactus, looking up at the tall, prickly plant. She was staring at the small pink flowers sticking to it. She raised up onto her hind legs, keeping her balance well from many moons of practice. She gently put her paws around the side and plucked it off, setting it beside herself before raising up again to do the same.

Hare shook his head, it wasn't exactly Scarslash that was worrying him... at the moment. It was actually the thought of hunting in the desert's, sandy ground, for the first time. He wasn't sure he could do it. Shouldn't he say that out loud. "I, um, I'm not very sure if i caught it right. There were two under there and I let one get away," he meowed, flicking his tail. At his old home he had caught three at a time.

"Nice catch." he meowed, smiling. "You seem a little unsure with yourself, is something wrong?" He cocked his head, the smile disappearing. "Am I making you uncomfortable? If I am, I'm a little iffy at the moment too...I'm sorry." He cleared his throught, waiting for the small tom to reply.
